Our Privacy Policy Policy

Good job. You're checking our privacy policy. You can probably guess that we are rather privacy conscious. Let us explain how we handle your personal information. Firstly, we don't collect any information from you during registration other than your email address, and that only if you want to provide it for forwarding functionality. We prefer to keep things anonymous, though if our service is abused, we may take steps to revoke your anonymity.

That's possible because of some incidental information we can collect. For instance, when you contact Despammed.com with your browser, we record your Internet Protocol (IP) address for our logs. This address can be traced to your ISP or network services provider who may, with cooperation, reveal your true identity. This is pretty extreme, though. So far, the only use we have of IP addresses and server logs is to gauge traffic to our site.

That's the simple part. The more serious privacy consideration is the fact that all of your mail sent through the Despammed mail handler and filters is viewable by Despammed staff. This is not our practice and, quite frankly, not something we'd waste our time doing. However, you should be aware that it is possible to scan and inspect mail items being handled and stored by our server. It is secured and accessible only to Despammed employees and its contents will not be released to any third parties without a U.S. court order.

Our UCE filtering process requires that the body of filtered messages be scanned by the software application. Only if you forward UCE to us that has escaped our filters do human eyes see your messages.

Finally, we do have to keep a database of all account information which means, ipso facto, we keep a consolidated list of customer email addresses. If you delete your address, it is not retained by our database. Our firm promise is that your email address, and any other personal information we may gather about you (except for the aggregated server IP logs) is not and will never be shared, rented or sold to any other third parties outside of Despammed. Even if we liquidate Despammed, your email address will not be treated as a saleable asset. Should Despammed come under new ownership, these terms will be part of the sales agreement or the Despammed client list will not be transferred.

All registered members will be notified of any relaxation to this policy (it won't happen, but we have to say that). You may, at anytime, ask what information we have on you and we will, upon verification of your identity, provide it to you. You may also, at anytime, ask that all personal information about you be deleted and your account terminated. That is your right with Despammed. Privacy is our business. We can make all the guarantees in the world, but if we violate our customers' trust, we won't be in business for long.
